Starlight Children

The Starlight Children's Foundation Australia was formed in 1988 with the mission to brighten the lives of seriously ill children. Starlight programs are delivered to children both in and out of hospitals throughout Australia. Starlight delivers innovative programs designed to make children happy when they need it most, in times of illness or injury. The Starlight Foundation runs programs including Starlight Wishgranting, Starlight Escapes, Livewire and Express Vans. Captain Starlight often makes appearances around the country. In addition to this, many major children's hospitals have a Starlight Express Room, a Starlight Fun Centre or Club Ado. These rooms are designed for the children to take a break from the hospital atmosphere and enjoy some freedom and normality. Raine & Horne Western Australia has been a strong supporter of the Starlight Foundation for many years. As the majority of Raine & Horne's clients are families, it makes sense that they support a charitable organisation that benefits families. Each year Raine & Horne Western Australia hold numerous functions, with the main aim of raising much needed funds to support Starlight. This year alone, Raine & Horne Western Australia has donated in excess of $30,000 to the Starlight Foundation.

The competition is promoting World Environment Day (5 June) and is an annual event. Entry forms are distributed by Raine & Horne offices throughout NSW. All children from NSW who are under 12 are eligible to enter the competition. Raine & Horne aims to inspire children to consider their environment and make positive choices towards how we treat our Earth. We are encouraging children to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle. All children are asked to complete a colouring in section and are asked to write one line on how they should be acting in order to protect our environment.
Sustainable Garden Challenge:

Developed by KAB NSW and Raine & Horne, this program recognises the achievements of individuals, community groups, schools and councils in creating and maintaining gardens that not only look good, but also achieve positive and sustained outcomes for the environment. The Sustainable Gardens Challenge is much more than just a ‘beauty contest’. It addresses the sustainable challenges of creating and maintaining a garden in today’s environment where we see the very real and growing need for low maintenance, low water usage, cost effective and sustainable garden designs. Entries have closed for this year’s competition, judging will take place in October. Regional Awards will be presented from 12th November, with the State Awards being presented on 27th November 2007.
